You will serve as a MOTOR VESSEL CAPTAIN SUPERVISOR II in the SHORE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT, PORT OPERATIONS DIVISION of NAVBASE KITSAP SILVERDALE WA.

This position has a requirement of United States Coast Guard License: Must possess and maintain a minimum of U.S. Coast Guard 500 ton Master license Inland, Master of towing vessel and radar endorsements. When incumbent has obtained required experience based on USCG regulations, incumbent will be required to obtain the Designated Examiners endorsement.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
The work requires long periods of constant standing, walking, operating auxiliary equipment, or steering the vessel on the tug while underway. Must be able to climb vertical ladders and step over three foot bulkheads on a rocking tug which requires the use of legs, hands, and arms. Occasionally, will be required to lift and move lines weighing up to 45 pounds. Must have vision in the normal range in both eyes with normal depth perception. Must have peripheral vision that will enable the incumbent to avoid falls and moving objects. Must be able to distinguish shades of color in order to see navigational aids and running lights of other vessels. Must be free of uncorrectable hearing losses that prevent whistles, fog signals, and other audio signals.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to: fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, chemicals. Incumbent may also be assigned to work areas where contact with sewage waste is possible. To ensure employee safety and health, the CNRNW and PSNS & IMF maintain personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personnel protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent will be required to take medical examinations to assess his/her medical qualifications and/or need for vaccination for duty involving work with these agents and/ or possible contraction of disease.
Work outside in all kinds of weather, including rough or high seas while aboard the tug when in service. Subject to hot sun, spray, rain, sleets, and ice. Will be exposed to industrial dirt, grease, oil, industrial fumes, and airborne particles. Will be exposed to possible injury from falls due to slippery footing and erratic motion. Will be exposed to possible strains, cuts, and bruises. Exposed to industrial noises generated by operating machinery and equipment with the possibility of hearing loss. Eye hazards will exist in most areas and/or in certain operations.
Will be exposed to organic growths (such as sea growth, barnacles, and shellfish) in dry docks, salt water systems, and other areas exposed to sea water. Will be required to use protective devices, clothing or equipment, while exposed to adverse environmental and hazardous work assignments. Wearing of required safety equipment in designated areas is mandatory, i.e., safety glasses, ear plugs, safety shoes, life jackets.
