What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Superintendent position at Command Performance Constructors?
General Superintendent — Concrete & Paving
Command Performance Constructors (CPC)
Long Beach, California
About the Role
CPC is looking for a General Superintendent to run the field across our federal and commercial work. You’ll have ownership of the dirt — every crew, every piece of iron, and every pour across multiple divisions and projects running at once. If you’ve spent your career building site concrete, paving, grading, and demo projects and you’re ready to lead the whole field operation instead of one job at a time, we encourage you to apply.
We’ve been building heavy civil work out of Southern California since 1996 — over 3,000 projects for clients like NAVFAC, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and private owners who need critical infrastructure built right. The team is tight, the work is real, and the standard is high.
This role reports directly to ownership and senior leadership. You’ll mentor superintendents and foremen, sit at the table on strategy and pursuits, and have a real hand in company strategy.
What You'll Do
Run the Field
• Lead all field operations across federal and commercial projects — multiple jobs, multiple crews, one standard.
• Develop superintendents and foremen into the next generation of CPC leaders.
• Own equipment, trucks, and drivers — keep iron moving and crews productive.
• Drive accountability for schedule, productivity, and quality across every site.
• Produce change order work for added scope and unforeseen field conditions — catch it, document it, get it priced and approved before the work moves on.
• Communicate with clients and outside teams — superintendents, PMs, inspectors, and other stakeholders — with professionalism at every step, and set clear expectations from day one.
Execute the Work
• Pre-plan jobs from the plans, specs, and schedule — catch constructability issues before they cost you.
• Sequence manpower, equipment, and materials across active jobsites.
• Spot risk early, adjust fast, and bring jobs in clean from start through closeout.
Keep People Safe & Projects Compliant
• Set the tone on safety — OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and CPC’s own standards aren’t negotiable.
• Make sure NAVFAC, USACE, and commercial client requirements are met on every job.
Protect the numbers
• Watch field productivity, support cost control, and partner with PMs on change orders and recovery.
Help Grow the Business
• Build long-term relationships with clients, inspectors, and agency reps.
• Feed real field intel into estimating, pursuits, and proposal strategy.
What you Bring
• 15 years in construction, heavy on concrete and asphalt paving.
• 10 years running work as a Superintendent or senior field leader, with multiple crews under you at once.
• Strong site work background — concrete, paving, grading, and demolition.
• Federal project experience (NAVFAC, USACE, DoD) is a big plus.
• You can read a set of plans and specs and see how the job should actually be built.
• You lead in a way that earns respect from crews, clients, and inspectors.
• Strong communicator — you can talk straight with a crew in the field, sit across from a Navy inspector, and brief ownership without missing a beat.
• You take pride in what you put in the ground, and you genuinely love heavy civil work.
• OSHA 30 required. EM 385-1-1 and QCM certifications are a plus.
Why CPC
You won’t get lost here. You’ll work directly with ownership, have real authority over the field, and see your decisions move the company. We build work that matters — military installations, critical infrastructure, projects where it has to be right the first time.
We offer:
• Competitive salary based on your experience.
• Performance-based incentives tied to the work you actually deliver.
• A long runway — this is a leadership role with room to grow as the company grows.
