Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and organizing dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection prevention management and aseptic techniques.
- Assist dentists during procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry by providing chairside support and managing dental instruments efficiently.
- Take and develop dental x-rays, including 3D scans when applicable, ensuring proper radiographic techniques while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
- Manage patient records using electronic medical records (EMR) systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, vital signs, and treatment plans.
- Support patient management by collecting vital signs, explaining procedures using dental terminology in a clear manner, and addressing patient questions to foster comfort and trust.
- Maintain clinical cleanliness by processing dental instruments according to sterilization procedures and ensuring all dental equipment is functioning optimally.
- Collaborate with the dental team to ensure compliance with healthcare infection prevention and control policies while maintaining high standards of clinical confidentiality.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; experience with Epic or other healthcare software is a plus.
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, medical documentation, and medical coding practices related to dentistry.
- Competence in taking dental x-rays, including intraoral and extraoral imaging; experience with 3D scanners is advantageous.
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, aseptic techniques, and sterilization procedures aligned with healthcare standards.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during various procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Excellent communication skills to explain treatments clearly to patients of all ages, including pediatrics.
- Certification in radiography or relevant dental assisting credentials preferred; CPR certification is desirable.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies.
