Field Service Electronics Technician II
Kansas City, MO
Compensation: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday: 7:45 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.

Provide phone, and field support for Comet Electronics products by diagnosing, repairing, and supporting RFID, embedded computing, and electronic systems in rail environments. This role requires hands-on troubleshooting skill, comfort working independently in the field, and professional customer interaction/communion.
Field Service Electronics Technician II Responsibilities:
- Support manufacturing and system assembly as needed
- Provide phone support to field technicians and customers
- Diagnose and repair electronic assemblies at the bench
- Perform on-site service work on and off railroad property
- Troubleshoot RFID, embedded computing, and communications systems
- Maintain accurate repair logs, service notes, and inventory records
- Represent Comet professionally with customers in the field
Field Service Electronics Technician II Background:
- Field Service Technician, Electronics Technician, Diesel/Electrical Technician, Rail Signal / Comms Technician, Industrial Electronics Tech
- Experience in railroad, transportation, industrial automation, utilities, or heavy equipment environments
- Comfortable working independently, traveling, and owning customer issues end-to-end
Required vs Optional Skills:
Required
- Hands-on troubleshooting of electrical / electronic systems
- Ability to use DMM, basic electronic test equipment
- Field work readiness:
- Outdoor, all-weather conditions
- Working near railroads and industrial equipment
- Digging in ballast; using hand tools
- Clean driving record; drug-free history
- Current passport or ability to acquire passport
- Ability to become eRailSafe Certified
- Basic computer skills (Windows, documentation, email)
- Clear verbal communication with customers and internal teams
Optional Preferred
- Digital and analog circuit troubleshooting
- Embedded systems or industrial electronics exposure
- RFID, radio, antenna, or cabling experience
- Soldering (through-hole; SMT a plus)
- ERP systems or structured work order environments
- Remote troubleshooting via phone / terminal
Optional
- Railroad systems experience (AEI, signaling, comms)
- Bench-level board repair
- Documentation or technical report writing
