What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Bookkeeper / Construction Accounting Lead position at Comerio Homes?
Senior Bookkeeper / Construction Accounting Lead
Accuracy. Ownership. Financial Control.
We’re not looking for someone to “do bookkeeping.”
We’re looking for the person who owns the numbers, keeps the operation tight, and ensures leadership can trust every financial decision being made.
This role sits at the center of our construction business. If the books are messy, the business suffers. If they’re clean, structured, and predictable—we scale.
Who This Role Is For
You’ll thrive here if:
- You take personal pride in clean, accurate financials
- You catch errors before they become problems
- You don’t wait for direction—you own deadlines and deliver
- You prefer structure, systems, and clarity over chaos
- You naturally improve processes instead of tolerating inefficiency
- You communicate clearly and don’t avoid hard conversations
Who This Role Is NOT For
This will not work if:
- You need reminders to stay on top of your work
- You get overwhelmed juggling multiple priorities
- You let small errors slide
- You avoid accountability or ownership
- You rely on others to clean things up behind you
What You’ll Own
You will take full responsibility for maintaining accurate, reliable financial operations across our construction projects:
- Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations
- Monthly financial reporting (P&L, WIP, budgets)
- Construction draws and financing coordination
- Job cost tracking and site cost reporting
- Pre- and post-closing reconciliations
- Escrow and deposit releases
- Commission statements and chargebacks
- Payroll support and insurance audits
- Tax reporting and payments
- QuickBooks management (Online Desktop)
- Process improvement and documentation
This is not a task-based role.
This is ownership of the financial system.
What “A-Player” Performance Looks Like
- Financials are clean, accurate, and trusted without question
- Month-end close happens on time without follow-up
- Discrepancies are identified and resolved early
- Documentation is organized and audit-ready at all times
- Systems improve continuously—nothing stays broken
You operate like a financial adult: steady, proactive, and reliable.
What You Bring
- 3–7 years in bookkeeping or accounting (construction experience strongly preferred)
- Strong understanding of job costing and WIP reporting
- Deep experience with QuickBooks (Online Desktop)
- High-level reconciliation skills across multiple accounts
- Proven ability to manage deadlines without oversight
- Strong attention to detail (this is non-negotiable)
- Clear, direct communication skills
Why This Role Matters
When this seat is filled by the right person:
- Leadership trusts the numbers
- Projects stay financially controlled
- Month-end becomes predictable
- Audits and reporting become smooth, not stressful
- The company can scale with confidence
