What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at COMBI PACKAGING SYSTEMS LLC?
The Material Handler picks inventory accurately and timely and distributes parts orders to assembly. The Material Handler also follows Company practices to track inventory, receive purchase orders and store incoming deliveries.
Essential Functions
The Material Handler will perform the following duties:
- Picks correct quantity of materials from storage locations relying on pick lists, production schedules, work orders and inventory reports; following order priority and checking availability of stock.
- Expedites the transfer of materials from the stock area to production areas.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with the Supervisor all discrepancies, overdue and outofstock materials.
- Receives purchase orders and unloads incoming trucks.
- Examines materials received for any obvious damage, verifies part numbers, checks for discrepancies, and stocks materials received in the correct locations.
- Maintains accurate data in the computer system daily.
- Participates in weekly cycle counts, completing assigned counts and assisting team members when the opportunity arises.
- Operates material handling equipment such as forklift, pallet jack, hand truck and dollies to move stock and organize storage.
- Crosstrains for supporting roles for personal growth and department support.
- Assists team members enthusiastically and as needed to build strong partnerships.
- Maintains equipment and work area in a clean and orderly manner.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Keeps regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
The Material Handler will work among the storage shelves and racks in the Storeroom and assembly areas. People in this role regularly use handheld scanners and office equipment such computers, phones, and printers. The work environment is air-conditioned, but temperatures may fluctuate from hot to cold depending on the seasons. The department may prove to be very fast paced. The noise level is moderate.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.
The Material Handler is a physically active role. The employee should be able to stand and move for up to 8 hours, and be required to lift materials, push carts of materials and climb ladders on occasion. The Material Handler will be expected to have the ability to move arms and hands, carry materials, and climb and/or balance. The employee will need unimpaired vision to see close, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is full-time, working first shift Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Cycle counts occur on Wednesday and will have earlier start and finish times. Start time on last business day of each month will also be earlier than regular schedule. Overtime may be necessary on occasion to meet the production schedule.
Skills
- High attention to detail for stocking materials in proper storage locations by part numbers and picking the proper parts for internal customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication to clearly state discrepancies, recording of stock and training.
- Professionalism and ability to work together with team members to help meet or exceed deadlines.
- Reading comprehension to understand instructions and reports, picking orders and delivering inventory to proper locations.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Prior usage of an ERP system is helpful.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Prior warehouse experience is preferred.
- Prior usage of SyteLine is helpful.
