Salary: Exempt position, $70-$75k
Position Overview
The FSQA Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and executing all food safety and quality assurance activities during the assigned shift. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards, company policies, customer requirements, and SQF (Safe Quality Food) Code requirements while supporting safe, efficient production.
The FSQA Supervisor leads inspections, verifies critical controls, manages documentation, and coaches team members to support a strong food safety culture, audit readiness, and continuous improvement. This position works closely with Operations, Sanitation, and Maintenance to promptly address food safety and quality risks.
Key Responsibilities
Daily FSQA & SQF Operations
- Conduct pre‑operational inspections to verify sanitation effectiveness, equipment cleanliness, and SQF prerequisite program compliance.
- Verify and document Critical Control Points (CCPs), product temperatures, metal detection, allergen controls, and labeling accuracy in accordance with HACCP and SQF requirements.
- Perform routine GMP, sanitation, and environmental monitoring inspections during production and initiate immediate corrective actions when deviations are observed.
- Review and manage production and quality documentation, including HACCP records, allergen verification logs, sanitation records, and SQF‑required forms.
- Ensure all required monitoring, verification, and corrective action records are complete, accurate, and audit‑ready.
Food Safety, SQF & Regulatory Compliance
- Support implementation and ongoing compliance with SQF Code, FDA, FSMA, USDA, and customer food safety requirements.
- Execute food safety programs including HACCP, allergen control, environmental monitoring, sanitation verification, and foreign material prevention.
- Investigate food safety and quality deviations using root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) under FSQA leadership direction.
- Support SQF internal audits, regulatory inspections, third‑party audits, and USDA NR resolutions by providing records, observations, and follow‑up documentation.
- Escalate significant food safety risks or repeated non‑conformances to FSQA management promptly.
Quality Assurance & Product Integrity
- Verify adherence to product specifications including weight, appearance, batter/breading adhesion, and overall presentation.
- Lead in‑process quality checks, sensory evaluations, and retain sample reviews.
- Manage quality holds, rework activities, and product disposition in coordination with FSQA management.
- Monitor ingredient and packaging lot traceability and actively support traceability exercises and mock recalls as required by SQF.
- Verify accurate labeling, allergen statements, and product identification during production.
Training, Leadership & Food Safety Culture
- Train, coach, and mentor FSQA technicians and production personnel on HACCP, GMPs, allergens, sanitation, and SQF expectations.
- Reinforce food safety culture by holding teams accountable to policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
- Serve as the primary FSQA point of contact during the shift, resolving real‑time food safety and quality issues.
- Support cross‑functional initiatives including new product introductions, changeovers, shelf‑life studies, and process improvements with food safety oversight.
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain accurate FSQA and SQF records and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for leadership review.
- Analyze trends related to customer complaints, audit findings, environmental results, and quality incidents.
- Recommend and support preventive actions and continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen SQF compliance and operational performance.
- Participate in internal audits, corrective action reviews, and food safety improvement projects.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of FSQA experience in an FDA/USDA‑inspected food manufacturing environment (breaded/frozen food experience preferred).
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience in FSQA or food production strongly preferred.
- Certifications such as HACCP, PCQI, Internal Auditor, or SQF/GFSI‑related training are a plus.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong documentation, auditing, organizational, and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working with digital FSQA systems or electronic recordkeeping platforms preferred.
Communication & Leadership
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead by example, remain calm under pressure, and prioritize food safety decisions.
- Capable of working cross‑functionally to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
