POSITION SUMMARY: The Equine Assisted Therapy Lead Facilitator is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and management of the Comanche Nation Assisted Therapy program. This is a new program and this position will be responsible for starting and building the program. This position will supervise employees and work directly with horses and persons receiving equine assisted therapy. The ideal candidate has substantial experience with horses, is dependable and reliable, and is committed to building the program over the long-term. The ideal candidate is further someone dedicated to living a sober lifestyle and promoting positive mental health and well-being. The person hired for this position must obtain Equine Assisted Wellness (EAW) certification.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Scheduling employees’ work hours
- Scheduling groups or individuals for therapy
- Caring for Comanche Nation-owned horses, including ordering feed, arranging veterinary care, grooming horses, and performing routine maintenance of horse stables, tack, and other equipment
- Coordinating and arranging agreement for borrow horses for therapy
- Manage the program budget, submit requisitions and purchase orders to Finance Department
- Seek and obtain grants to support equine assisted therapy expansion
- Serve as lead facilitator for equine therapy sessions and instruct clients on horsemanship skills
- Maintain confidentiality of client therapy sessions
REPORTS TO: Will report to Director of Agriculture Operations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Employee must be able to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand engage in repetitive motions, grasp, walk, feel, touch, speak, hear and see
- Employee must be able to move and lift computing equipment
- Employee must be able to ride and handle horses
- Employee must be able to move and lift horse feed and equipment
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work will be completed indoors or outdoors based on needs of the department
- Occasional travel for meetings, trainings, or conferences
- Ability to meet strict deadlines
- Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5pm. Some weekends and evenings.
- Travel Required: Occasionally
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess at least fifteen years’ experience in horsemanship, including experience with green and unhandled horses
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Comanche Nation motor vehicle policy
- Must be willing to submit to and pass drug testing
- Must be willing to submit to and pass a background investigation
- Must be willing to promote abstinence from drugs and alcohol
- Must be willing to learn and promote Comanche cultural beliefs concerning horses and horsemanship
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must comply with Comanche Nation policies and procedures
- Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
