Scope/Impact

The Director of Pharmacy Services, under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, directs, supervises, and coordinates functional activities in the assigned areas of responsibility. The Director consults with and advises the CEO, and other members of the administration team, regarding planning and significant operational issues, maintains close relationships with Physicians, Directors, Department Managers and customers. The Director assesses plans, directs, and evaluates pharmacy services in the Comanche County Medical Center Health System pharmacy departments and locations. Oversees all financial, operational, professional, and clinical activities of the pharmacy department. Other responsibilities are developing and implementing strategic pharmacy programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and leading the pharmacy management team. Also provides timely information to staff regarding new drugs, policies, and safety standards.

Job Functions

  • Fosters a positive work environment in which staff can function to their highest ability in providing excellent patient care.
  • Provides leadership to promote effective performance and quality pharmacy care to create an outstanding patient experience.
  • Establish standards for pharmacy practices and maintain authority, accountability, and responsibility for pharmacy services.
  • Participates in planning the pharmacy services budget, operating within this budget, and ensuring there is sufficient qualified staff to service patient needs.
  • Manages all supplies and equipment, supervises, promotes, and maintains positive team efforts with physicians, directors, managers, and personnel in other departments.
  • Works with other department managers and Administration to set and meet all budgetary goals.
  • Recommends staffing levels and participates with management in securing new personnel and/or release of current personnel as health system policies dictates.
  • Responsible for the oversite, development, and implementation of policies, procedures and practices including revisions as needed and staff competencies on an annual basis.
  • Evaluates pharmacy care by reviewing documentation and participating in QA activities with a goal to improve services and processes as required.
  • Represents pharmacy operations at meetings, including medical staff and health system board of director meetings as requested by the CEO.
  • Participates in functional decision-making processes necessary to the successful attainment of the health system’s mission in addition to maintaining an awareness of changes in healthcare pharmacy matters that could have an impact on the success of the health system.
  • Oversees all pharmacy departments within the health system and ensures all are operating within the legal requirements of their department.
  • Oversees all medication dispensing across all pharmacy functions including inpatient, outpatient, retail, long-term care, and clinic.
  • Collaborate with Administration in the planning and development of in-service programs for nursing and/or pharmacy personnel as well as ensuring all staff undergo pharmacy system orientation.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of the 340B program and coordinates with 340B Consultants on the program. They will oversee conducting the required quarterly 340B Committee meetings.
  • Chairs the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and oversee conducting these meetings as required by CMS and hospital leadership.

Experience

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution is highly preferred; Texas State Board of Pharmacy License in good standing required.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in inpatient and five (5) years in retail pharmacy operations. Minimum seven (7) years’ managerial experience required, preferably in a senior pharmacy leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of medical terminology related to pharmaceuticals and patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional patient service while managing complex medication regimens.
  • Familiarity with IV infusion protocols is highly desirable.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,640.00 - $178,000.00 per year
