Role Description The Senior Staff Accountant (Accountant III) is a full-time, on-site role based in Jenks, OK, responsible for managing complex accounting activities and supporting accurate financial reporting. This position oversees general ledger entries, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close processes, and prepares financial statements and supporting schedules. The role includes monitoring budgets, tracking project costs, assisting with grant-related accounting, and ensuring compliance with internal controls, GAAP, and applicable tribal, state, and federal regulations. The Senior Staff Accountant collaborates closely with finance leadership and project managers, analyzes variances, provides insights to support decision-making, and helps improve accounting processes and systems. Daily responsibilities may also include supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff and coordinating with external auditors.
Qualifications
- Strong general ledger, journal entry, and account reconciliation skills, with experience in month-end and year-end close.
- Proficiency in financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and compliance requirements, including familiarity with grant and project accounting.
- Experience using accounting and ERP software, along with solid Excel skills for financial modeling and data analysis.
- Ability to interpret financial data, prepare clear reports, and communicate findings to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented approach, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated integrity, discretion in handling confidential information, and commitment to ethical financial practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or progress toward certification is preferred.
- Several years of progressively responsible accounting experience, ideally including work in energy, utilities, tribal enterprises, or project-based environments.
- Willingness to work on-site in Tulsa, OK and collaborate with cross-functional teams supporting tribal energy initiatives.
