About the Position:
As a Community Intern, you support various library programs and functions during the summer. Additionally, you will assist with free lunch and snack, engage with children and teens as directed, ensuring the location is near, orderly, and inviting by tidying up materials and picking up after customers.
Position Schedule
A combination of mornings, afternoons, and evenings. Friday, Saturday and Sundays (as scheduled)
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists with programming and engagement of children and teens as directed.
- Appropriately shelves all materials, including board books, DVDs, paperbacks, etc. This includes casing AV materials in preparation for shelving and tidying up in general.
- Ensures the location is neat, orderly, and inviting by tidying up materials and picking up after customers.
- Performs basic project work as assigned by the volunteer coordinator or manager.
- Provides computer support as requested, using the Microsoft Office Suite when appropriate.
- Assists with free lunch and snack at the locations providing this service.
- Other duties as assigned by the site volunteer supervisor or manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Strong literacy skills.
- Ability to operate library technology including personal computer, email, software programs (i.e. Windows/Microsoft Office) and other job-related equipment and systems.
- Ability to utilize reliable transportation to promptly report to job assignment and other locations, per job requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, libraries, and residences or commercial vehicles (e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, and/or working in moderate outdoor weather conditions).
Work requires occasional lifting or pushing of up to 20 lbs. and the frequent lifting or pushing of up to 10 lbs.
Salary : $15
