Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 4–5 hours each afternoon (20–25 hours per week)
Position Summary
Columbus Jewish Day School (CJDS) is seeking a dependable, self-motivated Part-Time Maintenance & Facilities team member to help ensure our school remains clean, safe, and well-maintained for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in maintaining a welcoming environment, and can work independently to complete a variety of maintenance and custodial tasks.
The Maintenance & Facilities team member will perform light cleaning, routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and general handyman work throughout the school campus.
Essential ResponsibilitiesFacility Maintenance
- Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, air filters, and other building components as needed.
- Assemble furniture and equipment.
- Complete routine inspections of classrooms, offices, playgrounds, and common areas to identify maintenance needs.
- Maintain the school's outdoor gardens, including watering, weeding, pruning, and seasonal upkeep.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance, including salting walkways, clearing entrances, and maintaining outdoor areas.
Cleaning & Custodial Duties
- Perform light daily cleaning, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces.
- Clean lunch area each day
- Empty trash and recycling throughout the building.
- Maintain the cleanliness of entryways, hallways, and common spaces.
Event & School Support
- Set up and break down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events and meetings.
- Assist staff with moving furniture and classroom materials.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from faculty and administration.
- Help ensure classrooms and shared spaces are prepared for the following school day.
Safety & Security
- Help maintain a safe and secure school environment by identifying and reporting facility concerns.
- Lock doors, secure the building, and complete end-of-day building checks as assigned.
- Follow all school safety procedures and maintain a clean, hazard-free environment.
- Assist with emergency preparedness and facility-related safety initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience in building maintenance, custodial services, facilities management, or general handyman work preferred.
- Ability to perform minor repairs using common hand and power tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including bending, climbing ladders, standing for extended periods, and working both indoors and outdoors.
- Must successfully complete required background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a school or similar community setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve minor maintenance issues independently.
