Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and support department managers and staff across grocery and pharmacy operations
- Foster a positive, respectful, and performance-driven workplace culture
- Oversee hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and ongoing staff development
- Address personnel issues and performance concerns professionally and in alignment with company policy
- Operational Oversight
- Ensure smooth, efficient, and safe daily store and pharmacy operations
- Monitor and manage store cleanliness, organization, merchandising, and inventory accuracy
- Oversee ordering and receiving of products, shrink control, and vendor relationships
- Coordinate with pharmacy leadership to ensure seamless service, workflow, and compliance
- Customer Experience
- Model and promote excellent customer service standards across all departments
- Resolve customer concerns with professionalism and urgency
- Ensure consistent in-store execution that reflects community values and high service standards
- Financial & Strategic Management
- Develop, manage, and monitor store budgets, labor costs, and financial performance
- Analyze sales reports and identify opportunities for growth or improvement
- Implement strategies to increase profitability and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with ownership on long-term planning, store improvements, and community initiatives
- Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including food safety, labor, and pharmacy operations
- Maintain adherence to company policies, procedures, and standards
- Promote and enforce workplace safety protocols for staff and customers
- Community Engagement
- Serve as a representative of the business in the local community
- Support and lead local outreach efforts, sponsorships, and events
- Maintain strong relationships with customers, local vendors, and community partners

- The position supervises or manages the work of at least seven full-time employees or the equivalent. The position includes decisions or recommendations regarding personnel actions such as hiring, disciplinary action, overtime, changes in pay, and terminations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in business, management, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of retail management experience, including at least 2 years in a senior leadership role
- Experience overseeing multi-department operations; grocery or pharmacy experience strongly preferred
- Leadership & Communication:
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts and build positive relationships with employees, customers, and vendors
- Operational Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, labor costs, inventory, and scheduling
- Proficient in problem-solving, strategic planning, and process improvement
- Technology:
- Comfortable using POS systems, inventory management tools, scheduling software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Work Environment and Physical Demands
This position operates in a fast-paced retail grocery environment. Team members frequently interact with customers and coworkers and are expected to maintain a positive, helpful, and respectful attitude. Work areas may include the sales floor, stockroom, coolers, freezers, deli, or bakery, depending on the role.
- Work Schedule: Requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on store needs.
- Physical Requirements:
- Standing or walking for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
- Frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and lifting
- Regularly lifting and moving products up to 25 lbs, occasionally up to 50 lbs
- Operating carts, pallet jacks, slicers, or other store equipment as required
- Working in environments with varying temperatures, such as coolers, freezers, or warm kitchens
