Electrician II G120 Facilities Maintenance

This position performs skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment across municipal facilities As a "Master or Journeyman" electrician.

• Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, and control systems.
• Changes light bulbs, ballasts, drivers, and LED fixtures; upgrades lighting systems for efficiency and reliability .
• Troubleshoots and repairs faulty receptacles, switches, contractors, circuit breakers, panels, and electrical wiring.
• Installs and maintains electrical outlets, circuits, and branch wiring for offices, facilities, and equipment.
• Wires cubicles, offices, and workspace systems, ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes.
• Diagnoses and repairs electric motors, motor controls, and associated components.
• Installs, maintains, and repairs low-voltage systems including cameras, access control, speakers, and monitoring equipment.
• Maintains and services emergency power systems, including generators and transfer switches.
• Performs preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure safe and reliable operation.
• Assists with setup and support for special events by installing and maintaining temporary electrical services (power distribution, lighting, and connections).
• Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to complete installations and repairs.
• Ensures all work complies with local, state, and national electrical codes and safety standards.
• Organizes and prioritizes work orders; identifies materials and equipment needed to complete tasks efficiently.
• Responds to emergency electrical issues, including power outages and system failures.
• Maintains tools, equipment, and inventory related to electrical work.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of electrical supplies and materials.
• Knowledge of correctional rules and regulations regarding the supervision of inmates.
• Knowledge of supervisory techniques.
• Knowledge of national electrical codes.
• Skill in reading voltage meters, blueprints, and electric schematics
• Skill in electrical wiring, pipe running, wire pulling, and transformer hookup.
• Skill in the use of hand tools, a bucket truck, voltmeters, and amprobes.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
• Ability to operate machinery used in performing essential job functions.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

High School Diploma or GED required Completion of a trade school program in electrical systems or possession of a Journeyman Electrician card preferred Minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair Strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, and safety practices Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in municipal, institutional, or large commercial facilities. Familiarity with generators, transfer switches, and low-voltage systems. Knowledge of applicable electrical codes and regulations.

The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
