What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Technology Teacher (6th-12th Grade) position at Columbus City Schools?
Candidate will be teaching Business/Technology courses. Students will be familiar with Microsoft Office and Google applications with a focus on credentials. Additional responsibilities are to educate and equip students to use the computer as a productivity tool as well as a tool for learning, research, networking, collaboration, telecommunications, and problem solving. Students will leave with skills necessary for the required work in College and the real world.
Licensure requirements:
Career-Technical Administrative Office Technologies or Business Administration and Management OR Alternative Resident Educator for Career-Technical Workforce Development
A district may hire an individual who has not completed a teacher preparation program to teach in career-technical education. The individual will obtain the Alternative Resident Educator (Alt-RE) license if he or she:
- Holds a baccalaureate or master’s degree in the content (i.e., subject matter, career field or career-technical category)
- Evidences two years of full-time work experience or the equivalent in the career field;
- Completes an approved pre-service career-technical education program
OR
- Evidences five years of full-time work experience or the equivalent in the career field;
- Completes an approved pre-service career-technical education program
After completion of the 24-semester hour approved teacher preparation program and the Resident Educator program, a five-year provisional license is issued for Administrative Office Technologies or Business Administration and Management.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the delivery, planning and all aspects of the Business/Technology. The program includes class instruction and the equally important, hands-on lab projects
- Assist in the development of Business/Technology curriculum aligned with career pathways that ensure integration of academic and career technical education with 21st century skills
- Take part in professional development activities designed to improve the teacher’s knowledge for the purpose of improving teaching and learning.
- Monitor student overall academic progress regularly, not limited to interim/quarter grades
- Maintain current knowledge of district, state and federal laws, regulations and
- Performs other duties as may be assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
