REPORTS
TO: Supervisor,
Division of Early Childhood Education
DEPARTMENT: Division of Early Childhood
Education. Academic Achievement Support Services
POSITION SUMMARY: The Special Needs Preschool Community Service
Facilitator collaborates with parents, teachers, and other staff members to
provide services to children who have been identified as having a special need
in their least restrictive environment.
These services are provided in a variety of settings including public
and private preschools, Head Start classrooms, daycares and home
environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Coordinate team members which may include
parents, general education teachers, related service personnel, principals,
psychologists, school nurses, social workers, and community members
·
Facilitate appropriate inclusion and learning opportunities
for students based on the individual's needs
·
Maintain case management file on each child,
which may include MFE (Multi Factored
Evaluation), IEP, screenings,
assessments, and progress reports.
·
Progress monitor student goals and objectives
and administer assessments as required
·
Provide written progress report to parents and
teachers on a quarterly basis
·
Prepare learning activities using appropriate
materials based on the individual needs of the child
·
Establish rapport with all stakeholders within
each child's learning environment
·
Assist in the development of behavior
management strategies as needed within home and school environments
·
Attend staff meetings/workshops/in-services
·
Participate as a member of the transition team
for three to five-year-old children
·
Provide specially designed instruction to
children identified with a disability and/or consultative services
·
Serve out of district transfer students while a
new evaluation is completed
·
Participate in screening process to determine
need for further evaluation of children who attend screening
·
Mentors new staff
·
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
·
Master’s
degree in Special Education or a related Special Education field.
·
Five
(5) or more years of teaching and/or related Special Education
·
Valid
Ohio Department of Education Intervention Specialist certificate or equivalent
·
Interpersonal
skills necessary to communicate effectively and work productively with all
levels of district staff, students, parents and the general public
·
Ability
to provide specially designed instruction to 3-5-year-old students in a variety
of settings
·
Demonstrated
ability to handle problem situations in a tactful, courteous and respectful
manner.
·
Analytical
ability to develop plans of action to address a variety of issues and concerns
in a timely manner
·
Excellent team building, coaching, facilitation and interpersonal
skills with all levels in an organization
·
Demonstrated ability to effectively serve as a leader and member
of a team
·
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including
effective presentation skills
·
General knowledge of urban special educational challenges
·
Proven record of championing continuous learning and professional
growth
