Candidates must be able to develop in each pupil an appreciation of American and world history. The social studies teacher develops proficiency in the use of social studies inquiry skills and concepts as well as have the ability to motivate each pupil to understand and exercise their rights, privileges, and responsibilities as an American citizen. The teacher should have the skills to develop an understanding of the geographical, historical, cultural, and political factors which influence the development of a global society.
