The exam is web-based. Approved applicants will be notified by email of their scheduled test date and time.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and may include a pre-employment drug test.
The certification process will be the top 10 candidates on the eligible list, or top 25% of the list, whichever is greater, based on overall test score.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work; considerable knowledge of floor and carpet maintenance; general knowledge of basic lawn care and grounds maintenance; general knowledge of fire extinguishers; ability to use a computer and related software; ability to perform physical labor; ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds with assistive devices; ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; ability to perform minor building maintenance and make minor repairs incidental to the electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and glazier trades; ability to provide leadership and direction to custodial staff; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, teachers, supervisors, and children; ability to operate a computer.

- Opens building and conducts daily inspection of school building and grounds to ensure proper cleanliness;
- Schedules work and makes work assignments to custodial staff;
- Monitors job performance of custodial staff; instructs, coaches, and motivates custodial staff to ensure that quality standards are met; initiates disciplinary action for assigned custodial staff;
- Conducts and documents conferences with custodial staff to address work related issues, such as substandard job performance, failure to comply with stated procedures, and excessive absenteeism;
- Conducts and documents standardized weekly inspection of custodial work assignments; records findings and reports results to the custodial services office;
- Requisitions cleaning supplies and equipment; checks supply orders and invoices to ensure that shipments are received as ordered; assists truck driver in unloading deliveries;
- Prepares and submits summary reports on trash and recycling to custodial services office;
- Arranges furniture and oversees custodial work related to student activities, extracurricular activities, civic meetings, and other events;
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and buffs floors in classrooms, stairs, and hallways; vacuums and shampoos carpets and rugs; operates floor buffer and wet pick-up machines;
- Washes walls, windows, and ceilings; dusts furniture, radiators, and window sills;
- Sanitizes fixtures in restrooms, drinking fountains, and wash basins; replaces hand towels, toilet tissue, and soap in restrooms;
- Empties trash and recycling receptacles;
- Replaces burned out light bulbs and tubes; replenishes classroom supplies;
- Replaces broken glass, unstops toilets, oils motors on fans, and performs other minor building and equipment repairs;
- Mows and trims grass, trims shrubbery, weeds planting areas, and rakes leaves;
- Shovels snow from sidewalks and entrances; sweeps sidewalks and picks up trash or litter on school grounds;
- Observes operation of heating system to ensure that proper temperature is maintained;
