- Reviews menus with supervisor and makes minor substitutions to fit the needs of school.
- Communicates with principal regarding cafeteria operation schedules and menus; investigates complaints from students, parents, or other sources.
- Assigns work to Cooks and Food Service Helpers; inspects work in progress to ensure production timeliness and conformance to cooking and sanitation standards; plans and prepares for next day production needs on a daily basis; assists in performance of work as required.
- Oversees the work of student assistants.
- Supervises personnel to include completing performance appraisals and recommending discipline; communicates absences to administration; requests substitutes when needed.
- Records meals for Federal reimbursement.
- Teaches quantity cooking and equipment use.
- Orders food supplies and paper products; receives order deliveries and ensures accurate on-hand inventory; makes adjustments to menu based on inventory.
- Maintains records of cafeteria receipts and expenditures.
- Ensures registers are operating and have cash on hand for student purchases; prepares bank deposits for excess cash; ensures student PINs are available to students and register personnel.
- Oversees storage of perishable and non-perishable goods in order to prevent waste or contamination.
- Checks temperatures and operation of kitchen equipment and submits requests for maintenance if needed.
- Prepares daily production sheets, accounting records, teacher labor reports, or other reports as required.
- Maintains records for free and reduced price meals.
- Completes training on a regular basis for food safety, child safety, work practices, supervisor practices, first aid, or other related topics.
