Job Summary
The Columbus Airport Commission is seeking a dedicated POST Certified Police Officer to join our Public Safety Department. In this role, you will help maintain the safety and security of airport passengers, tenants, visitors, employees, and facilities while providing exceptional customer service. This position offers a dynamic work environment where no two days are the same, combining traditional law enforcement responsibilities with specialized airport emergency response.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws, including traffic laws, criminal statutes, and airport ordinances.
- Patrol airport property using standard patrol vehicles to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Respond promptly to emergencies, incidents, suspicious activity, alarms, and calls for service.
- Conduct criminal investigations and make arrests when appropriate.
- Prepare detailed and accurate incident, arrest, and investigative reports.
- Perform surveillance activities to identify potential security threats or policy violations.
- Conduct searches and process evidence in accordance with applicable laws and department procedures.
- Provide first aid, CPR, and emergency medical assistance until additional responders arrive.
- Assist with airport emergency operations and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) responses after obtaining required certifications.
- Maintain a professional presence while providing excellent customer service to passengers, tenants, and visitors.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Georgia POST Certification as a Peace Officer in good standing.
- Valid Georgia driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Knowledge of criminal law, traffic law, arrest procedures, report writing, and investigative techniques.
- Experience with firearms, use of force, evidence handling, and search and seizure law.
- Ability to safely operate a patrol vehicle in various weather and emergency conditions.
- Ability to successfully obtain Georgia Firefighter I and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) certifications within the timeframe established by the Commission.
- Strong communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond during emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous airport, aviation, or transportation security experience.
- Experience in surveillance, emergency response, or loss prevention.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- Experience working in a multi-agency public safety environment.
