The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Nursing/Advanced Practice Director and in collaboration with attending physicians, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide comprehensive care to patients in the outpatient Solid Tumor Medical Oncology practice. The NP will conduct patient assessments, obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, review laboratory and diagnostic results, develop and manage treatment plans, and provide ongoing patient education and follow-up care.

The NP will be responsible for ordering appropriate diagnostic tests, medications, consultations, and supportive care services; obtaining informed consent; documenting patient encounters and clinical decisions; and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The NP will serve as a liaison among patients, caregivers, referring providers, and multidisciplinary care teams to facilitate seamless coordination of oncology care.

Additional Information

  • Location: 161 Fort Washington Avenue, New York, NY
  • Schedule: Four (4) 10-hour shifts per week
  • Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Responsibilities

  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Assess, diagnose, and manage patients undergoing treatment for solid tumor malignancies in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Review and interpret laboratory, radiologic, and diagnostic test results and initiate appropriate interventions.
  • Order medications, diagnostic tests, consultations, and supportive care services within the NP scope of practice.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
  • Obtain informed consent and provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment plans, symptom management, and supportive care resources.
  • Conduct follow-up visits and monitor treatment response, toxicities, and symptom management.
  • Document patient assessments, treatment plans, orders, and follow-up care in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Serve as a liaison for referring physicians, external providers, and transferred patients.
  • Maintain clinical quality standards and ensure compliance with institutional, regulatory, and professional practice guidelines.
  • Perform additional clinical and administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years related experience.
  • Current New York State Nurse Practitioner license (or proof of application)
  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license
  • Board certification
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration (or eligibility).
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Hematology and/or Oncology clinical practice.
  • Experience managing patients with solid tumor malignancies.
  • Familiarity with Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian systems, workflows, and procedures.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered care and multidisciplinary collaboration.
