The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner for the Spine Program at The One is responsible for assisting Rehabilitation Medicine physicians with patient care, environmental, and organizational tasks. Performs patient care activities, coordinates care, and provides education under the supervision of an attending physician. Performs medical histories, physical exams, and other nursing care and documents all findings appropriately. Assists in peer-to-peer reviews, completion of documents related to medical necessity, and completion of forms related to work status and disability.

Responsibilities

  • Performs medical histories and physical examinations, and makes initial medical diagnoses and therapeutic plans. Evaluates patients in the practice. Performs other diagnostic, therapeutic, and interventional procedures as necessary.
  • Instructs patient/family regarding medication use and treatments; monitors patient responses to medications.
  • Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Coordinates care in a multidisciplinary manner
  • Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
  • Post tests and examination results.
  • Works with referring physicians and their office staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participates in payer peer-to-peer case reviews and completes required medical necessity documentation.
  • Reviews and completes all relevant patient care forms and surveys.
  • Administers intravenous medications and injections in compliance with state law and guidelines.
  • Assists with clinical responsibilities during general outpatient/inpatient clinic sessions under the supervision of an attending physician.
  • Coordinates the clinic and maintains compliance records for all patients; prepares and reviews patient medical records; participates in educational initiatives.
  • Writes prescriptions and orders; triages and evaluates urgent patient issues.
  • Responds to all patient phone calls regarding medical concerns and questions.
  • Respond to pharmacy phone calls regarding medication refills.
  • Maintain medical records.
  • Triages and responds to patient telephone calls.
  • Screen incoming laboratory data.
  • discusses data with patients, and takes appropriate action when results require prompt intervention.
  • Participates in relevant multidisciplinary clinical conferences.
  • Covers for RN Clinical Supervisor.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's of Science in Nursing, plus at least one to two years of related experience, or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Current New York State RN and NP license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of related work experience.
  • Experience in Physical Rehabilitation & Medicine (PMR) or related fields.
  • Bilingual in Spanish

  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively, and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Must have excellent clinical skills in a high-volume, high-pressure environment.
  • Must be able to work independently and efficiently.
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of staff and must have an understanding of patient confidentiality.
  • Must be a highly motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented individual who can be creative and take initiative as needed.
  • Physical Requirements: Medium physical workload, which requires frequent standing, kneeling, crouching, and walking.
    • Frequent assistance with transfers of disabled individuals.
    • Position requires occasional lifting and pushing.
    • Will include work in a fluoroscopy suite and require the wearing of heavy lead garments for radiation protection.
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements.
