The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Clinical Coordinator III Nurse Practitioner delivers comprehensive outpatient care for hepatobiliary and transplant patients, performing advanced assessments, coordinating diagnostic work ups, and providing supervised office-based procedures. Working closely with supervising surgeons, the APP manages pre and post-operative care, educates patients and families, and ensures timely communication with referring physicians to support seamless continuity across care settings. The role also contributes to clinical pathway development, program growth in minimally invasive and robotic surgery, and ongoing research and training initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations for ambulatory patients. In collaboration with the supervising surgeon, establish a working diagnosis and initiate the outpatient diagnostic work up, including ordering appropriate laboratory studies and imaging.
  • Order and interpret laboratory and screening tests relevant to hepatobiliary and transplant evaluations, ensuring timely follow up and communication of results to patients and referring physicians.
  • Assist in minor procedures performed in the outpatient setting under direct supervision, including venipuncture, arterial puncture, ECG acquisition, wound care, debridement, and catheter or NG tube placement. Administer IV medications, fluids, blood products, and local anesthetics as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with service leadership to build and expand minimally invasive and robotic surgery programs, particularly in hepatobiliary surgery and living donor transplantation.
  • Contribute to the creation and refinement of outpatient clinical pathways for liver cancer and hepatobiliary patients to ensure safety, efficiency, and high-quality outcomes across the continuum of care.
  • Perform and document detailed medical, surgical, and psychosocial histories; maintain accurate problem lists and medication lists; and ensure clear, timely documentation accessible to referring providers.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and medical center staff regarding liver disease, preoperative optimization, and post-operative expectations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for community and internal referring providers. Coordinate communication, share clinical updates, ensure timely transmission of consult notes, and facilitate continuity of care across institutions.
  • Provide telephone based clinical guidance to patients and collaborate with primary physicians to address concerns, clarify plans, and coordinate next steps.
  • Arrange outpatient services, imaging, procedures, and home care needs. Facilitate smooth transitions for admissions, transfers, and discharges when required.
  • Develop goal directed care plans incorporating health maintenance, anticipatory guidance, and multidisciplinary interventions aligned with established protocols.
  • Participate in and support clinical research initiatives within the hepatobiliary and transplant programs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and healthcare teams—both within and outside the NYPH network—to ensure alignment on the patient’s plan of care.
  • Assist with prior authorizations for medications, imaging, and procedures to support timely outpatient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support outpatient operations and referring provider relationships.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum education:

  • Nurse Practitioners: Master of Science in Nursing

Minimum Related Experience

  • NP - 3 years nursing or related experience.

Minimum Licensing/certifications Required Upon Start Date

  • NYS RN and NP Licenses and ANCC Board Certification.
  • BLS Certification
  • DEA Certification

Other Requirements

  • Ability to perform comprehensive history and physical examination.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate a patient caseload.
  • Work within a collaborative agreement/protocol with a physician and health care team.
  • Demonstrate leadership ability to manage patients and interact effectively with peers and physicians.
