Position Summary
The incumbent will provide clerical support in a busy Anatomic Pathology service unit. Will perform several clerical duties pertaining to the processing of Slide Send out requests presented by various requestors ex. patients, law offices, clinical trials and research. Will handle incoming phone calls, facsimiles and mail pertaining to slide requests. Obtain patient release authorization forms/consents and applicable processing fee. Request re-cuts selected by the Pathologist on key slides from Histology lab. Prepares packaging for shipping; completes research slides using electronic bar-coding and tracking system. The incumbent will also be responsible for transporting surgical specimens, requisitions slides, blocks, documents to/from offsite warehouse and throughout the medical center. Performs other duties necessary to the functioning unit.

Responsibilities
- 40% - Processing Slide Send out requests presented by various requestors e.g. patients, clinical trials, and research documents data in CoPath and applicable databases.
- 35% - Will handle incoming phone calls, fax, and mail pertaining to slide requests. Obtain patient release authorization forms/consents and applicable processing fee.
- 15% - Request re-cuts selected by the Pathologist on key slides from Histology lab. Prepares packaging for shipping; completes research slides/blocks retrieval, files, archives and refiles blocks and slides using electronic bar-coding and tracking system.
- 5% - Will be responsible for transporting surgical specimens’ requisitions, slides, blocks, and documents to/from offsite warehouse and throughout the medical center.
- 5% - Perform other duties necessary to the functions of the unit.
- Two years of college or completion of secretarial school or equivalent business experience plus a minimum of two to three years of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree desirable.
- Knowledge of CoPath, EPIC, Word, and Excel preferred.
- Typing 30-35 wpm preferred.
- Ability to work independently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Medical terminology is required.
- Must be willing to work evenings.
- Must have excellent computer skills.
- Must be able to walk up to 5 miles a day.
- Must be able to successfully complete systems training requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
