The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Susan Lasker Brody Center for Population Mental Health at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health aims to use a comprehensive public health approach to improve how mental health is understood, researched, and addressed in the United States. Our mission is to combine innovation, advocacy, and training to generate evidence-based, prevention-focused interventions and develop the next generation of population mental health leaders.

Position Description
The Brody Center seeks an Outreach Director to facilitate sustained partnerships between Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health researchers, policy advocates, community organizations, and government officials to create coordinated advocacy networks focused on prevention-oriented mental health policy reforms. Candidates should have expertise in community outreach and project management, with experience coordinating community advisory boards with adults and youth. Successful candidates will have opportunities to develop regular convenings with stakeholders and advisory boards, strategic planning sessions, and collaborative advocacy initiatives involving community members and leaders. The candidate will work directly with the Director of the Brody Center, the Center Project Director, the Community Advisory Boards, and additional Mailman staff. A successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and have strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

The Outreach Director will be responsible for a variety of tasks including, but not limited to:

  • Community Partnership Development and Management (30%): Identify, establish, and maintain strategic partnerships with community organizations, advocacy groups, policy advocates, government officials, and mental health stakeholders to build coordinated advocacy networks.
  • Community Advisory Board Coordination (20%): Recruit, onboard, and support members of adult and youth Community Advisory Boards; plan and facilitate regular meetings; synthesize feedback and integrate community perspectives into Center initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Convenings and Events (20%): Design and execute regular convenings bringing together researchers, policymakers, advocates, and community members; organize strategic planning sessions focused on prevention-oriented mental health policy reforms.
  • Project Management and Coordination (15%): Manage timelines, deliverables, and logistics for outreach and engagement activities; track partnership outcomes and maintain comprehensive records of stakeholder engagement.
  • Communications and Advocacy Support (10%): Develop materials and messaging to support advocacy initiatives; communicate Center research findings and policy recommendations to diverse audiences; support dissemination of evidence-based, prevention-focused interventions.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested (5%).

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in training, education, and/or experience.
  • At least two years of experience in a program manager/project director role.
  • Ability to work well and flexibly with teams of investigators.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and extremely detail oriented.
  • High-level interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
