Description

The Senior QA Engineer is responsible for establishing a QA Strategy and process, Hands-On Manual, and automated Testing, Automation, and CI/CD Integration. This position is integral to GME’s unique value proposition as a “digital first distributor” that serves its customers through industry-leading digital & e-commerce experiences, which enables customers to transact with ease and convenience. In addition, they are the individual contributor that is responsible for developing the strategy, measuring, and reporting on overall software quality. The Senior QA Engineer will collaborate with our software developers, customers, and project management team to scope projects and communicate expectations. This role, reporting to the SVP of IT, requires a combination of QA expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Requirements for success:

The QA Engineer will be responsible for items including but not limited to the following:
  • Define and implement QA strategy, processes, tools, and frameworks from the ground up, ensuring they align with the company’s engineering and business goals.
  • Perform hands-on manual testing (functional, regression, exploratory, UI/UX, integration) and develop and execute automated test scripts for web, mobile, integration, and API layers.
  • Build and maintain test automation frameworks and integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline in collaboration with the development team.
  • Identify, log, and track software defects and partner with developers and product to ensure timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed QA early in the development lifecycle (shift-left testing) and ensure high-quality releases.
  • Independently manage the QA function, driving quality initiatives and improvements without constant direction.
  • Establish and track key QA metrics, deliver dashboards and reports, and regularly present testing outcomes and quality insights to leadership.
  • Recommend and implement performance, load, and security testing strategies.
  • Evaluate and select QA tools that support both current needs and future scalability; ensure seamless integration with Jira and existing workflows.
  • Serve as the primary QA advocate, influencing team processes and championing a quality culture across the organization.
  • Partner with leadership to continuously improve software testing efficiency, reduce time to release and improve the customer experience.
  • Ensure high-quality software development by implementing effective testing strategies, code reviews, and performance optimization.
  • Identify areas for process improvement within the development team and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions

Ideal candidate qualities include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 7 years of experience in software quality assurance, with a strong mix of manual and automation testing.
  • Proven experience building QA processes and frameworks from scratch.
  • Hands-on experience with test automation tools (Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, etc.).,
  • Strong knowledge of API testing tools (Postman, RestAssured, etc.).
  • Strong experience writing and executing SQL Server (T-SQL) queries to validate data, perform backend testing, and support test case development.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Testing both Greenfield and Brownfield products.
  • Defining, tracking, and presenting QA metrics to measure and improve quality.
  • Excellent communication skills working with leadership and development in making recommendations
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously, take initiative, and own QA in a fast-paced environment.
  • E-commerce and distribution experience is preferred, as well as an understanding of checkout flows, cart logic, catalogs, procurement, payment processing, etc.
