Columbia Montessori School is seeking full time teaching assistants for our Toddler (12-24 month) and Pre-Primary (2–3½ years) programs.

We are seeking positive and reliable individuals who are passionate about young children and willing to work toward creating a peaceful and collaborative learning environment where natural curiosities are stimulated and a love of learning is nurtured.

This posting is for a full time position. Shifts may fall between 7am and 6pm, Monday through Friday.

Basic Function

Assist the Lead Teacher in providing for the care, guidance, emotional needs, and developmental experiences of young children, and in directing an environment appropriate for Montessori educational standards and philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of children through active supervision
  • Observe and interact with each child regularly, building positive relationships with children and families
  • Respond attentively to children's needs, including diapering, comforting, and addressing injuries
  • Redirect children with respect, following the Montessori Philosophy and CMS Policies
  • Act as a model of peace and respect for children
  • Maintain regular, professional communication with parents, guardians, other staff members, and the Executive Director
  • Attend meetings and professional development sessions as requested
  • Help maintain a clean and orderly classroom environment

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a High School Diploma
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Willing to submit to background checks
  • Willing to become CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified upon hire (if not already)
  • Willing to complete a physical and TB Risk Assessment and provide physician documentation of both
  • Willing to obtain a Food Handler Certificate upon hire
  • Willing to complete at least twelve hours of child-related training annually

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of early childhood education experience
  • Formal education in Education, Child Development, or a related field
  • Montessori training

Benefit Eligibility

Full time positions are eligible for benefits through Columbia Montessori School, which may include medical, retirement, holiday pay, and paid time off.

Pay: $15.50 - $18.00 per hour
