Exceptional Children (EC) Teacher – General Curriculum
Under general supervision, the EC Teacher (General Curriculum) serves students with disabilities in a range of educational settings, providing specially designed instruction aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher collaborates with colleagues, families, and specialists to ensure the academic, functional, and behavioral success of students in the general curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and monitors IEPs for students with disabilities.

Provides direct instruction aligned with the general curriculum, adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs.

Uses evidence-based instructional practices, interventions, and assistive technology.

Collects and analyzes student data to inform instruction and IEP goals.

Collaborates with general education teachers to support inclusion and accommodations.

Participates in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and student support teams.

Maintains accurate records of student progress and required documentation.

Manages student behavior using positive and proactive strategies, including crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.

Maintains confidentiality of all student information.

Participates in professional development as required.

Minimum Training and Experience

North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in Exceptional Children: General Curriculum (or eligible for licensure).
