Job Summary:
The Public Safety Officer is responsible for the protection of the Richland-Lexington Airport District’s personnel, property, and customers. This position will maintain a positive working relationship with all personnel, maintain a safe working environment, and exercise professional judgment in the performance of their job.
Responsibilities:
- Patrol assigned area and respond to emergency calls in a timely manner.
- Maintain positive working relationship with all personnel.
- Monitor and control access to assigned building.
- Monitor and control area access.
- Control and maintain building security.
- Follow all policies and procedures as set forth by Columbia Metropolitan Airport and the Department of Public Safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Leadership skills
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Active Class I Law Enforcement Officer (or within the past 12 months)
· U.S. Citizen
· High School Diploma or Equivalent
· Registered voter in the state of South Carolina
· Valid SC driver’s license
· Consent to and pass random drug screenings.
· Pass preemployment background investigation which includes: a polygraph examination, criminal history, and credit checks.
· Ability to pass annual medical evaluation and fit test which shows ability to wear a respirator.
· Obtain FAR 139 Airport firefighter certification (40-hour course) within 3 months of hire (paid by the Airport).
· Ability to work 24hr on and 48hr off schedule.
· Fluent in English, with the ability to speak, read and write.

Pay: $62,337 annually
