Columbia Lutheran Home is seeking a compassionate and energetic Activities Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Activities Director to enrich the lives of our residents through engaging social, spiritual, and recreational programming. From leading small group sessions to coordinating seasonal parties, you will play a vital role in fostering a vibrant community for our residents.
The hours for this position are:
- Thursday, Activities 10 am to 4:00 pm
- Friday, Activities 10 am to 4:00 pm
- Saturday, Activities 10 am to 1 pm
- Sunday, Activities 10 am to 1 pm
This position would ideally suit an outgoing high school or college student.
Key Responsibilities
- Activity Leadership: Plan, prepare, and lead small and large group activities independently, including Sing-A-Longs, Bingo, and special events like picnics and seasonal parties.
- Resident Engagement: Provide meaningful one-on-one visits and individualized programming for assigned resident caseloads.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate daily attendance logs and complete essential clinical documentation (Initial Assessments, MDS, care plans, and progress notes) via computer data entry.
- Volunteer Support: Assist in training and supervising volunteers to ensure the success of department programs.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all fire safety, disaster preparedness, emergency care, and infection control policies.
- Representation: Attend meetings and educational classes as a representative of CLH and the Activities Department.
What You Bring
- Experience: At least two years of education or experience working with elderly, disabled, or dementia populations.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written English skills; ability to write clearly and accurately.
- Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional patience, understanding, and a professional, cooperative attitude toward residents and staff.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in the evolving roles of activities and caregiving.
- Mission Alignment: Comfort working within the Christian mission of CLH and a genuine interest in meeting the diverse needs of our residents.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Must be able to stand, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to move easily throughout the facility, push/pull residents in wheelchairs, work outdoors, and assist with loading accessible vans for off-site trips.

Pay: $21.42 - $23.43 per hour
