What You’ll Do
As a Pre-Op/PACU RN, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring patients have a seamless and positive surgical experience. Your responsibilities will include but are not limited too:
- Preparing patients for surgery by assessing their condition, recording vitals, and ensuring consent forms are accurate.
- Providing clear instructions and answering patient questions to alleviate concerns.
- Initiating IVs and preparing patients for their procedure.
- Administer medications as indicated by the surgeon, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all protocols.
- Monitoring patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), assessing their condition, and ensuring they meet discharge criteria.
- Responding to post-operative emergencies and communicating changes to the physician.
- Apply and adjust durable medical equipment (DME) for patients, ensuring proper fit and functionality.
- Perform controlled substance counts with another nurse at the beginning and end of each day, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Monitor and maintain inventory levels, ensuring all necessary supplies are readily available.
- Conduct and document monthly inspections and checks of the MH (Malignant Hyperthermia) cart and Code cart to ensure preparedness and compliance with safety standards.
- Ensure the completion and accuracy of all documentation within the Electronic Health Record (EHR), maintaining compliance with established standards and protocols.
What We’re Looking For
- Current Oregon State RN license.
- AA or BS degree in nursing.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
- At least 1 year of RN experience in a surgical setting ( preferred but not required
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred qualifications include previous experience in an ASC setting.
