Job Description:

The successful candidate shall:

 

  • Provide instructional and educational experiences for students who range in age from four to five. 
  • Work with students who may possess limitations including:  developmental delays and/or intellectual disabilities, health impairments, behavior disorders, learning disabilities and/or multiple handicapping conditions. 
  • Cooperate with grade level team to develop curriculum and assessment strategies to meet building and District goals and objectives.
  • Provide appropriate assessment of developmental and academic skills in the preschool setting.
  • Participate in Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings.
  • Implement appropriate programs for students in conjunction with the Guidance Team members (GT).
  • Deliver on goals and objectives which facilitate and measure student growth.
  • Maintain proper records and facilitate the necessary paperwork and forms as required by law and Columbia School District policy.
  • Assume responsibility for productive utilization of a classroom paraeducator, if provided.
  • Collaborate successfully with a Special Education Teacher in an inclusive setting.
  • Provide effective opportunities for peer interaction with students of various abilities, as appropriate.
  • Be flexible to the demands of the position.
  • Work with students in an enthusiastic, supportive, and consistent manner.
  • Experience with computers, interactive whiteboard and Google Classroom preferred, not required.
  • Successful experience working with children of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
  • Adhere to and maintain confidentiality in accordance with the law and Columbia School District policy.
  • Communicate effectively both written and orally and in a timely manner with school staff, parents, students, and community organizations.
  • Meet the physical needs of young students which may include, but is not limited to: assisting with medical devices.
  • Be willing to participate in extra-curricular assignments and activities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Current Washington State Teacher's Certificate appropriate for preschool.
  • Provide for basic education in areas of early childhood development (cognitive, adaptive, social, communication, and motor skills).
  • Successful preschool/elementary school teaching experience documented with excellent evaluations.
  • Demonstrated success in managing and modifying disruptive student behaviors, executive functioning deficits, and social/personal/responsibility behaviors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with MDT.
  • Participate in team teaching situations.
  • Evidence of the ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles.
  • Maintain a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional activities related to education.
  • Physical stamina as required to work effectively with elementary aged students.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.

Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.

 

Sense: The employee is required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds. The employee must be able to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. The employee is required to taste and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Lifting: The employee must be able to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; must also be able to lift overhead. The employee may be required to physically move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Physical Hazards: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F . The employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in this work environment is moderate.

Salary : $17,000 - $34,000
