POSITION SUMMARY
Designs, installs, administers, and optimizes servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications supported by tuning the servers as necessary This includes ensuring the availability of client/server applications, Exchange e-mail messaging systems, configuring all new implementations and developing processes and procedures for ongoing management of the server and messaging environment. The LAN Server Administrator I will assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center.
Work is performed in an office and a datacenter. This work area is sometimes noisy. Work requires intermittent sitting, standing, stooping or walking and lifting computer equipment up to 50 pounds.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develops strategies for client/server implementations; architect the infrastructure required to support those strategies
- Manages and administers all e-mail messaging systems and their corresponding or associated software and hardware
- Installs, configures and initiates Microsoft Windows/Exchange servers, software and any other corresponding equipment
- Acts as project lead in the design and review of new server systems, applications and hardware; conduct capacity planning as needed
- Sets and administers server storage space allotment, resource reservations and directory assistance
- Checks service desk database for entries on server resource issues; prioritize and respond to service desk tickets as appropriate
- Provides file system configuration and management; define and perform server backups and recovery procedures.
- Monitors and analyzes e-mail system activities to ensure maximum performance, efficiency and availability.
- Monitors and tests e-mail server software performance and provide statistics and reports.
- Plans and implements server upgrades, maintenance fixes and vendor-supplied patches
- Analyzes e-mail system or application usage and plan for growth or increases in network capacity
- Recommends, schedules, and performs software improvements, upgrades and/or purchases
- Adds, removes, certifies and moves new or existing user accounts and administers permissions and access rights
- Assists in designing and implementing data center security features, including HVAC control, environmental alarms and access restrictions
- Develops and maintains training materials and server documentation
- Provides on-call technical support
- Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- MCSA on Microsoft Windows Server 2016 and/or 2019
- Knowledge of Windows Server, Exchange/Exchange Online, MS Office/O365
- Experience installing, configuring and maintaining all manner of server hardware and associated network equipment, including SCSI, RAID and I/O topology
- Familiarity with TCP/IP and SNA network protocols and operating system configuration
- General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS as well as Active Directory and Global
- Experience with Backup software
- Experience with VMware ESX server virtualization
- Possess the drive to learn and is adaptable to change/new technologies
- Self-starter and self-motivator
- Ability to critically analyze a symptom, diagnose a fault, plan and take appropriate action

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a degree in a course of study related to occupational field. Sufficient experience to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually interpreted to require 2 or more years of related experience.
A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
