Reports to: Facility Operations Manager
Position Overview:
The Manager, Pharmaceutical Production is responsible for all manufacturing, filling, packaging, and labeling activities relating to the production of medical cannabis pharmaceuticals for New York state. Applicants should have a supervisory background with relevant experience, be process oriented, safety conscious and focused on compliance, along with having strong attention to detail, good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
Major Areas of Responsibility include:
- Develop and support a high performing production department with accountability for schedule, quality, engagement, training, safety, and compliance.
- Direct activities within the group to meet daily / weekly / monthly production goals.
- Supervise manufacturing & packaging personnel, assuring timely performance feedback, accurate timekeeping, and adherence with company policies.
- Track production and inventory status, from formulated materials through finished goods, on a daily basis.
- Prep samples for delivery to testing labs; prep orders for delivery to internal dispensaries and to external wholesale customers.
- Write/update SOPs and Work Instructions for existing and new products.
- Know how to operate all key pharmaceutical machinery, labelers, fillers, pumps, counters, balances, etc.
- Train personnel (pharmaceutical GMPs, SOPs, and general operations).
- Troubleshoot equipment problems; assist maintenance manager with implementation of PM programs in operations.
- Assure cleanliness and contamination control standards are maintained.
- Assist plant schedulers with determination of what should be done and when.
- Work with the supply chain manager to set up and manage a raw material warehousing area and process.
- Develop and execute department metrics, goals, and improvement projects.
- Lead continuous improvement projects that provide annual cost savings.
- Perform audits and resolve quality audit observations.
- Write exception reports, CAPAs, change controls, APR’s, protocols, etc.
Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge & Abilities):
- Demonstrated leadership ability to build outstanding teams and direct daily production activities. Must interface well with all levels of the organization
- Strong knowledge of packaging processes and operations
- Flexibility to manage constantly shifting deadlines, varying deliverables, and communication complexities
- Ability to tactfully handle difficult situations, to use good judgment in investigating problems, and to maintain cooperative working relationships with all personnel
- Ability to perform all duties in an independent manner
- Ability to effectively supervise and train employees reporting to this position
- Understanding and observation of current FDA Good Manufacturing Practices Act (GMP) and corporate operating procedures
- Understanding and observation of safety regulations and procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Mechanical: Must understand proper and safe use of equipment used in weighing, mixing, tablet compression, filling, counting, labeling, closing and cartoning. Must be able to understand and use testing equipment utilized in validating packaging processes
- Mathematics: Must be able to perform basic mathematical computations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Must be able to understand and calculate conversion of systems of weights and measures, e.g., English/metric conversions. Must be able to understand exponential mathematics
- Computers: Must be able to use computers and software related to job function, e.g., Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP), spreadsheets, and word processing

· The job requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, climbing, and lifting or moving up to 10 pounds (or more with a coworker). Good visual acuity, hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive motions with accuracy is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
