Distribution Center Receiving Lead

Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor or Designee
Location: Palmetto, GA

Job Summary

The Distribution Center Receiving Lead is responsible for leading the receiving team and ensuring all incoming product is received accurately, safely, and efficiently. This position provides day-to-day direction to the receiving team, verifies parts and quantities, identifies discrepancies, coordinates quality inspections, and ensures product is properly put away and inventory locations are maintained.

The Receiving Lead is also responsible for helping train team members, identifying process gaps, communicating issues to management immediately, and maintaining a safe, organized, and productive warehouse environment.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead and direct the receiving team on a daily basis.
  • Assign work and ensure priorities are completed accurately and on time.
  • Monitor team performance, productivity, quality, and adherence to established processes.
  • Communicate issues, delays, inventory discrepancies, and staffing concerns to management.
  • Hold team members accountable to company procedures and performance expectations.
  • Assist with training and onboarding of new employees.
  • Lead by example in safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism.

Receiving & Inventory Accuracy

  • Properly receive and document all incoming shipments
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, condition, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify and communicate shortages, overages, damages, mixed pallets, and other discrepancies.
  • Work with Quality to identify products requiring inspection prior to put-away.
  • Ensure product is accurately labeled and identified before being put away.
  • Ensure received product is placed in the correct inventory location.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through proper receiving, put-away, replenishment, and transaction practices.
  • Perform weighing and counting of product as required.
  • Assist with inventory investigations and discrepancy resolution.

Material Handling & Warehouse Operations

  • Safely unload and load palletized product from delivery trucks.
  • Operate forklifts and reach trucks to move product throughout the facility.
  • Put away product into primary and overstock locations.
  • Move palletized product to designated overstock locations.
  • Replenish primary bin locations as needed.
  • Pick product from elevated locations when required.
  • Properly wrap and secure pallets.
  • Ensure pallets and product are stored safely and according to established standards.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and accessible receiving and warehouse areas.

Communication & Administration

  • Respond to emails and operational communications as needed.
  • Communicate receiving priorities and issues to the Warehouse Supervisor or designee.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Shipping, Inventory Control, and other departments when receiving issues affect operations.
  • Ensure required receiving documentation and system transactions are completed accurately and timely.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and communicate recommendations to management.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct required pre-shift equipment inspections.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or safety concerns.
  • Properly use equipment charging stations.
  • Maintain safe travel paths and storage conditions throughout the warehouse.
  • Ensure all established organizational policies, rules, and regulations are followed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Requirements

  • Forklift and reach truck certified or able to successfully complete Colson certification.
  • Effectively operate RF scanners.
  • Perform equipment pre-shift inspections.
  • Properly use designated equipment charging stations.
  • Accurately read and use weighing/counting scales.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Lead, coach, and hold team members accountable.
  • Identify problems, determine appropriate action, and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Work independently while effectively leading a team.
  • Sit, stand, walk, bend, lift, and operate a forklift/reach truck for extended periods.
  • Work safely at elevated heights when operating reach equipment.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of forklift/reach truck operating experience preferred.
  • Two years of RF scanner experience preferred.
  • Previous warehouse receiving experience preferred.
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience working with inventory management systems preferred.

Leadership Expectations

The Receiving Lead is expected to take ownership of the receiving operation, not simply perform receiving tasks. The Lead is responsible for identifying problems, communicating issues, following through on corrective actions, and ensuring the team follows the established process.

The expectation is: See it. Own it. Communicate it. Fix it.

Accuracy, safety, productivity, and accountability are the responsibility of the entire receiving team, with the Receiving Lead setting the standard.
