The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado is seeking a program expansion coordinator to provide interim oversight to the Idea2Product 3D printing lab.
The individual will be working with faculty / staff members and graduate / undergraduate students at the university in support of 3D printing access and services and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the equipment and supervision of student staff;
this includes but is not limited to : assembling, trouble shooting, installing, repairing, and reconfiguring 3D printers, data gathering of operations, and coordination with other outreach partners across the Walter Scott Jr.
College of Engineering and the CSU main campus. The selected individual will also oversee operational budgets, assist with program expansion and strategic planning, and assist with grant writing to further expand I2P operations.
- Required Job Qualifications degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or a closely related field by the proposed start date;
- Ability to physically and independently move 25 lbs. of lab equipment, tools, and materials with the aid of a dolly;
- Demonstrated experience building STEM outreach programs;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with various groups of university stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff and others within and external to the University;
- Proficiency with Windows OS, MS Office (specifically Excel),
- Demonstrated knowledge / experience with engineering applications such as MATLAB, LabVIEW, and SolidWorks;
- Demonstrated manufacturing skills, including the use of hand tools, manual lathe / mill, CNC, and 3D printers;
- Experience training and managing undergraduate students, within and outside of engineering disciplines;
- Demonstrated budgeting and purchasing skills to support STEM-focused outreach;
- Excellent written communication skills;
- The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the US by the proposed start date; the department will not sponsor a visa for this position; and
- Must have a valid drivers license or the ability to obtain a drivers license or access to a licensed driver by the proposed start date.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Three years relevant industry or academic experience in an experimental laboratory;
- Experience in crossing manufacturing technologies, particularly 3D printing, machining, and injection molding;
- Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects and priorities;
- Proficiency with a wide variety of Windows-based computers at the hardware level memory, hard drives, optical and other storage devices, wired and wireless networking), system backups, and computer cloning;
- Experience with outreach and mentoring students from underrepresented groups in STEM;
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision; and
- Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills.

- Work through the Engineering Success Center (ESC) outreach coordinator to provide I2P support to existing WSCOE outreach
- Schedule I2P-based and I2P-supported outreach activities (I2P tours, STEM4Kids, summer camps, etc.)
- Support WSCOE and general admissions in tours of the space for prospective students
- Present I2P capabilities and facilitate access for departments and colleges across the CSU system
Percentage Of Time 20 Job Duty Category Grant Generation and Fundraising Duty / Responsibility
- Present for University Technology Fee Advisory Board (UTFAB) and Engineering Student Technology Committee (ESTC) for yearly funding package
- Assist Engineering Success Center in grant proposal generation
- Assist the CSU Development team with fundraising opportunities, both for I2P as well as related departments and initiatives
Percentage Of Time 15 Job Duty Category Data Generation and Dissemination Duty / Responsibility
- Develop data acquisition strategy for lab performance (print times, filament usage, user breakdowns, etc.)
- Interface with and augment related data acquisition efforts for recruiting and outreach in WSCOE and CSU
