Role Description This full-time Payroll Accountant role is a hybrid position based in Fort Collins, CO, with a combination of on-campus and work-from-home arrangements. The Payroll Accountant will process and review payroll for university employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws. Daily responsibilities include reconciling payroll records, validating time and attendance data, calculating deductions, and resolving payroll-related inquiries from staff and faculty. The role will involve maintaining and updating payroll systems, collaborating with Human Resources on employment contracts and compensation changes, and preparing payroll tax filings and related reports. The Payroll Accountant will also assist with audits, support process improvements, and contribute to the integrity and reliability of CSU’s financial and payroll operations.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in Payroll Management and Payroll Services, including end-to-end processing and issue resolution.
- Proficiency with Accounting Software and payroll systems, with the ability to learn and adapt to new tools.
- Solid understanding of Payroll Taxes, wage and hour regulations, and basic employment law as it relates to compensation.
- Experience working with Employment Contracts, compensation changes, and related documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in higher education or public sector payroll, and familiarity with multi-state payroll, is beneficial.
