GIS Technician I

Do you possess a solid knowledge of GIS technologies, utility documentation, terminology, and construction practices? Do you enjoy the technical components of working with GIS data while utilizing your people skills to build relationships with internal and external customers? If so, we'd love for you to join our Utility Data Management team as a GIS Technician I! You'll have an opportunity to collaborate with GIS professionals, engineers, and business partners to perform GIS editing for our energy datasets (gas and electric); contribute to the development and maintenance of process documentation; support continuous improvement initiatives; and help ensure the accuracy and integrity of asset information.

What Else Will You be Doing?

  • Editing gas and/or electric utility spatial, attribute, and relationship data using ArcFM tools 
  • Reading and interpreting diagrams, prints, specifications, AutoCAD drawings, and work scopes to digitize as-builts into the GIS environment
  • Reviewing and correcting data integrity errors related to our energy utility datasets
  • Reviewing and assisting in archiving supporting documentation
  • Assisting in the retrieval of infrastructure records for internal and external customers, and scanning and uploading documents into our enterprise document management system

Who You Are

  • Demonstrated proficiency with ESRI products including ArcMap and AutoCAD
  • Experience using ArcGIS Pro, ArcCatalog, Utility Network, and/or AGOL is valued
  • Proficiency with Schneider tools
  • Experience using Maximo, eB, and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to identify, implement, and document opportunities for process improvements
  • Ability to communicate GIS concepts and processes effectively to a variety of audiences
  • Basic knowledge of construction standards and principles
  • Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required - this job requires operating Colorado Springs Utilities' vehicles

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be of only negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those is negligible. Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment.
