As a Lead I (Elementary School Custodian), you play a key leadership role in ensuring the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and custodial functions of your assigned site are executed at a high level.


This position offers the opportunity to lead and support a team, coordinate building operations, and serve as a critical partner to school leadership. You will apply your expertise to ensure facilities are well-maintained, safe, and ready to support teaching and learning each day. Employees in this role collaborate closely with District departments and take pride in work that has a direct and visible impact on the school environment and overall District operations.


Position Summary


The Lead II provides advanced lead support for daily operations and service delivery. This position serves as a senior resource by coordinating multiple workflows, supporting training, monitoring compliance, resolving escalated issues, and assisting with employee performance management activities. The position provides day-to-day work direction, coaching, and prepares employee evaluations subject to supervisory review and final approval. Higher-level employee conduct matters and formal personnel actions are referred to supervisory leadership. Serves as primary designee in the supervisor’s absence for daily operations.


Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates workflow across multiple functions, shifts, or service areas.
  • Assigns daily work and adjusts staffing coverage as needed.
  • Trains and coaches staff on procedures and service expectations.
  • Monitors productivity, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Resolves escalated customer or operational concerns.
  • Conducts performance observations and prepares draft evaluations.
  • Assists with improvement plans and probationary reviews.
  • Refers serious conduct or personnel issues to supervisor.
  • Maintains operational reports, schedules, and records.
  • Serves as designee for daily operations in supervisor absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Four (4) years of related experience.

Preferred: Experience as a Building Tech or Custodial Support Tech (CST) preferred.


Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Work is performed in and around District buildings and facilities. This position is subject to rotational assignment across District sites based on operational needs and at the discretion of the Area Custodial Supervisor, Custodial Foreman, or Facilities Operations & Maintenance Manager. The role may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, and varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.


This position requires regular physical activity with periods of heavy exertion. Employees must be able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift and lift, carry, push, and pull up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.

Frequent movements include climbing stairs and ladders; bending, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; and reaching, grasping, and manipulating objects of varying size, shape, and weight. The position requires manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and cleaning machinery.


The employee must be able to receive, process, and communicate information through vision, hearing, and other assisted means, and to perceive environmental conditions (e.g., odors or hazards), with or without reasonable accommodation.


Employees in this category will also receive the following for the 2026-2027 school year:

  • Non-Recurring Pay: 7% of base salary in Non-Recurring Pay (distributed as 3.5% on November paycheck and 3.5 % on May paycheck).
  • Staffing Stability Incentive (Adams Elementary, Galileo Middle School, and Mitchell High School): ESP employees will receive the equivalent of one salary step divided over 12 pay periods.

Base Salary Setting: Employment, assignment and salary placement, is in accordance with job description requirements. A work history is required to demonstrate job title, job duties and time worked in the position. Grade placement for ESP positions is determined by the Salary Schedule by Job Title resource. Salary Setting (New Hires):
Any newly-employed Education Support Professional will be placed on the twenty-five (25) step system. Each step represents two years of experience, based upon equivalent experience. The maximum number of years of experience granted is 19-20 years, which is equivalent to placement on step ten (10). Steps are determined by experience listed on the application and resume.


Salary Setting (Rehires):
Returning employees who have previously resigned or separated from the District will be rehired at the same step they were on at the time of resignation/separation plus any new experience gained in the same job, provided step increases were approved by the Board during the years in question.


Employees with experience in the District who have left the District and then returned to the same position shall be hired at the same pay grade (refers to the ESP placement on salary schedule by job title) and step at time of resignation. Additional relevant experience gained after resignation may be evaluated from the employee’s application and updated resume.
