The Central Mountain Small Business Development Center (SBDC), based in Salida, Colorado, supports entrepreneurs and small businesses across Chaffee, Lake, and Park Counties. As part of the Colorado SBDC Network, we provide no-cost, confidential business advising, practical training, and access to resources tailored to mountain and rural communities.
Role Overview
The Central Mountain SBDC is seeking experienced, impact-driven Business Advisors to support entrepreneurs and small businesses through one-on-one advising and/or training workshops. This is a flexible, as-needed role ideal for professionals who enjoy coaching business owners and supporting local economic growth.
What You’ll Do
- Provide confidential, one-on-one business advising
- Support clients with topics you're an expert in, which could include business planning, financial analysis, marketing, operations, HR, growth strategy, or industry-specific needs/navigation.
- Facilitate or support training workshops and group sessions (as needed)
- Document advising activity and outcomes
- Connect clients to relevant resources and funding partners
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in one or more business support areas (business planning, finance, marketing, branding, HR, operations, valuation, legal basics, etc.)
- Strong coaching and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a flexible, contract role
- Mission-aligned and impact-driven mindset
- Preferred: Bilingual (Spanish/English) and/or experience working with small businesses, entrepreneurs, or rural communities
Compensation & Structure
- Pay is based on experience, expertise, and demand
- 1099 independent contractor
- Work is assigned based on client fit, request, and/or program needs for our central mountain region. Hours can vary and are typically based on client demand and your availability—you can take on as much or as little work as your schedule allows. Most advisors support between 2-12 hours per month.
- Remote, in-person, or hybrid, depending on location and client needs
