Senior Accountant
Position Summary
The Senior Accountant will support the school district’s finance operations, with a primary focus on cash management, bank reconciliations, and financial accuracy. This role also requires a proactive approach to process improvement, identifying inefficiencies and implementing streamlined workflows to enhance financial operations and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Core Accounting Operations
- Perform and oversee daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
- Manage cash activity tracking, ensuring accurate recording and timely reconciliation
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to cash, deposits, and transactions
- Support month-end and year-end close processes with a focus on reconciliation accuracy
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, state, and school district financial regulations
Process Improvement & Optimization
- Evaluate existing accounting workflows and identify opportunities for process improvements
- Implement standardized procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls
- Partner with finance leadership to streamline reconciliation processes and reduce manual work
- Document updated processes and provide training or guidance to team members as needed
- Support system enhancements or integrations related to financial operations
Financial Reporting & Support
- Assist in preparing financial reports, schedules, and audit documentation
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure proper financial tracking and reporting
- Support audit requests and ensure documentation is complete and accurate
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5 years of accounting experience, with a strong emphasis on cash and bank reconciliations
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement or workflow optimization
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
Preferred
- Experience working in the public sector or school district finance
- Familiarity with governmental accounting standards (GASB)
- Experience with ERP systems used in education or public administration

Work Environment

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, aligned with district office hours. Occasional evening or extended hours may be required during audit periods, fiscal year-end, or special projects.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant accounting experience
- Experience with public sector or school district accounting preferred
- Familiarity with ERP or financial management systems preferred
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered
