Instructor of Developmental English

ABOUT THIS POSITION

Summary: The English Program at Colorado Mesa University invites applications for an Instructor of Developmental Writing starting August 2026. Candidates are expected to teach the department's current offerings in developmental writing, primarily ENGC 090. The ideal candidate will have pedagogical specialization expected in courses that support students working to develop proficiency in reading and writing skills at the college level. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught on-line, hybrid, or via distance delivery modalities.

  • Teach other courses as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Qualified applicants will possess the following:
  • MA in English or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively.
  • Successful experience teaching developmental writing courses.
  • Graduate level course work in basic writing.
  • Effective interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Desire and ability to work collaboratively with university faculty and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in English or Rhet/Comp, concentration in Basic Writing Pedagogy or related field.
  • Theoretical background in composition instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach developmental education courses.
