ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Instructional Technology Specialist advances teaching and learning excellence by supporting the effective integration, administration, and innovation of learning technologies at Colorado Mesa University. This position serves as a bridge between pedagogy and technology, empowering instructors to design meaningful learning experiences using the university’s suite of digital tools. The role collaborates closely with CDLI colleagues, IT partners, and academic departments to promote accessible, engaging, and pedagogically sound use of technology across all learning modalities.


ROLES

• Administer and maintain CMU’s Learning Management System (LMS) and integrated learning technologies.

• Partner with faculty and CDLI staff to implement innovative, accessible, and pedagogically sound uses of digital tools.

• Collaborate with IT professionals, academic leaders, and end users to ensure the LMS and integrated learning technologies are aligned with best practices, as well as institutional goals.

• Support faculty and staff through consultations, training, and just-in-time resources on effective use of learning technologies.

• Monitor system performance, coordinate updates and testing, and liaise with IT and vendors to resolve complex issues.

• Remains abreast of technology directions, initiatives, and trends within the scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance, and recommendations.

• Participate in pilot projects, technology evaluations, and implementation of new or updated instructional tools.

• Contribute to institutional compliance initiatives related to accessibility, accreditation, and state or federal requirements.

• Other duties may be assigned as needed by our business.


CAPACITY REQUIREMENTS

• Strong understanding of instructional technologies and their application to teaching and learning.

• Ability to learn new systems and applications quickly and support others in adopting them.

• Ability to work collaboratively with academic departments, IT, CDLI colleagues, and institutional leadership.

• Ability to communicate clearly, patiently, and empathetically with faculty and staff.


ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE FOR RIGHT FIT

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Information Systems, or related field.

• 3 years of experience supporting or administering learning technologies in higher education.

• Working knowledge of LMS environments (e.g., D2L Brightspace, Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle) as they relate to instructional tool use.

• Experience providing training, consultation, or support for faculty using digital tools.

• Strong written and verbal communication and relationship-building skills.

• Demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service.

• Proven ability to multi- task with critical deadlines with minimal or no direction.
