What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Billing and Coding Specialist position at Colorado Eye Consultants?
One of Colorado's leading ophthalmology practices, Colorado Eye Consultants, is seeking an experienced medical billing and coding specialist to join our growing team. We have an amazing team of providers that are supported by an in house revenue cycle management team. This position will become part of that experienced team of billing and coding specialists that provide outstanding customer service to both our providers and patients to ensure a cohesive environment between the front and back end of the practice. Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Fielding billing phone calls
- Perform tasks ranging from data entry to assignments involving critical thinking and research.
- Payment posting/allocation of both insurance and patient payments (electronic and manual).
- Research and resolve missing checks, missing EOBs and other posting issues.
- Review credit balances, refund requests, overpayments, underpayments and resolve or appeal as necessary.
- Verify eligibility via multiple sources.
- Confirm, update, and/or edit patient demographic and insurance information.
- Scrutinizing patient statements
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Previous medical billing and coding experience is required, experience in ophthalmology and optometry is strongly preferred
- Understanding of patient demographics/insurance to charge posting, payments received, account adjustments and final resolution of patient accounts is necessary.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills: Every patient account and every insurance payor offers its own set of unique challenges.
- The ability to think through a situation and carefully identify the best action to take is critical to be successful at this role.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills: The position involves regular communication with the insurance company, patients, providers, as well as relationship building and interaction with other teammates.
- Ability to adapt quickly: Our environment can change quickly on a daily basis. Adapting and demonstrating resiliency are key.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
