Director of Engineering

My client, an established electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, is seeking a hands-on Engineering Director to lead Technical Engineering and SMT Programming within a high-mix PCB/PCBA manufacturing environment.

This is not a desk-based engineering leadership position. The Engineering Director works closely with the manufacturing floor and leads the technical processes that take complex PCBAs from customer data and documentation through programming, production release and manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

• Leads Technical Engineering and SMT Programming teams, establishing priorities, accountability, workflow and cross-training
• Oversees SMT programming, component/package libraries, program validation and production release
• Supports high-mix SMT production and complex PCB/PCBA assembly
• Oversees programming and technical support for automated SMT equipment, including Fuji NXT III platforms
• Reviews and validates CAD, Gerber, pick-and-place/centroid data, BOMs, drawings and customer manufacturing documentation
• Drives technical reviews from receipt of customer data through manufacturing release
• Supports NPI, prototypes, first builds and production launches
• Partners directly with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Production and Planning to eliminate technical and production constraints
• Improves SMT programming accuracy, setup time, placement performance, throughput and equipment utilization
• Supports in-line SPI/AOI, X-Ray and other inspection processes used throughout PCB/PCBA manufacturing
• Maintains manufacturing documentation, routings, configuration control and engineering changes
• Troubleshoots placement defects, component orientation issues, package/library errors and SMT programming issues
• Develops technical personnel through mentoring, training, cross-training and standardized processes

Qualifications:

• BA/BS Engineering or related technical discipline
• Engineering leadership within an EMS/PCB/PCBA contract manufacturing is required
• High-mix SMT production, complex PCB/PCBA assembly
• SMT equipment, programming, component/package libraries and manufacturing processes
• Strong understanding of CAD, Gerber, pick-and-place/centroid data, BOMs and manufacturing documentation
• Experience with automated inspection technologies including SPI, AOI and X-Ray
• Experience supporting NPI, manufacturing releases, engineering changes and production troubleshooting
• Comfortable spending significant time on the manufacturing floor working directly with technical and operations teams

Preferred:

• Fuji SMT equipment/programming
• Aegis MES and ERP/MRP experience

Compensation and Benefits:
