Position Goal
The Elementary Literacy Coach serves as an instructional leader dedicated to improving student literacy achievement by building the instructional capacity of teachers through coaching, collaboration, professional learning, and data-driven decision-making. The primary goal of this position is to ensure the effective implementation of high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with district curriculum, state standards, and the Science of Reading. The Literacy Coach partners with teachers, administrators, and instructional teams to strengthen instructional practices, support the use of assessment data to inform instruction, and promote equitable learning opportunities that accelerate literacy growth for all students. Through job-embedded coaching, modeling effective instructional strategies, facilitating professional learning communities, analyzing student performance data, and supporting continuous school improvement efforts, the Literacy Coach fosters a collaborative culture of reflective practice, instructional excellence, and student success.

Minimum Requirements

- Must be eligible or hold State of Delaware Certification - Elementary
- Bachelor's degree or Master degree in, or working towards, Literacy or School Leadership
- Must be certified in Special Education or demonstrate a strong knowledge of special educationKnowledge and skills in working with a wide range of students.
- Minimum 5 - 10 years of experience (preferred)
- Acceptable Criminal Background Report and no entries on Child Protection Registry in the State of Delaware.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administration and the general public.
- Demonstrate knowledge of evidence- and research-based strategies that effectively promote student learning, behavioral supports, social-emotional learning, and overall academic achievement for students.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to issues impacting various cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic groups.
- Proficient in Technology, such as Microsoft and Google Applications, Classlink, Schoology, Infinite Campus, etc.
- Demonstrates understanding and ability to perform job-related tasks.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the position.
- Must be able to serve staff and students remotely and in person depending on the needs of their students.

- Partner with school administrators and district instructional leaders to improve achievement by: applying improvement science principals to guide decision making and participating in ILTS, leadership meetings, and quarterly meetings
- Coach, model, and support teachers through job-embedded professional learning, including weekly classroom observation cycles on implementation of state standards in core and intervention programs to strengthen Tier 1, 2, and 3 supports, classroom management and non academic instructional strategies. .
- Attend and participate in professional learning opportunities that support all students (MLLs, Students with IEPs, etc) and effective classroom routines aligned with state standards and district initiatives.
- Support special projects and training initiatives aligned to district priorities and best practices.
- Work alongside School Success Teams, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and grade-level teams to support the design and implementation of academic and non-academic MTSS interventions.
- Regularly track, analyze, and communicate data to support continuous improvement and student achievement through the MTSS system.
- Collaborate with building and district coaches to design and develop standards-aligned curriculum resources and assessments.
- Design and facilitate professional learning that supports the development of evidence-based practices and effective classroom routines.
- Serve as a resource for schools, administrators, and teachers on curriculum and assessment, with particular emphasis on at-risk populations (Students with IEPs, Multilingual Learners, etc.)
- Build collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, specialists, and families to promote a culture of continuous improvement, shared leadership, and high expectations for student literacy achievement.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative and professional relationship with peers, support staff, teachers, parents, administration, agency staff and school district staff.
- Maintain accurate coaching documentation, instructional records, and data to support coaching cycles, school improvement efforts, and district reporting requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards in all aspects of the role.
- Comply with all Federal, State and Local regulations and policies: accurately complete required paperwork within designated timelines, utilize district resources (i.e Employee Handbook, District website, Collaborative Agreement, Professional Code of Conduct, Administrative procedures, School District Board Policies, etc.) to maintain professionalism and avoid noncompliance, and cooperate with compliance monitoring and dispute resolution activities.
- Maintain current certifications (including clock hours via DEEDS), stay current on evidence based instructional strategies and technology and actively engage in required and self- selected professional learning.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on district or program needs.
