The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on a diverse fleet of Class 5-8 commercial vehicles, including fuel trucks, chemical tankers, petroleum tankers, dry vans, and related equipment. This position ensures all fleet assets operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and company standards.

This position works in a maintenance shop and outdoor environment supporting a fleet of commercial trucks, tankers, fuel delivery vehicles, and trailers. The role may require overtime, weekend work, and emergency response to minimize operational downtime and ensure safe fleet operations.

- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance services on Class 5-8 trucks, tractors, trailers, tankers, and support equipment.
- Conduct DOT inspections and complete required maintenance documentation.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fuel system issues.
- Service diesel engines, transmissions, drive trains, suspension systems, steering components, braking systems, and HVAC systems.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair fuel and chemical tanker equipment, including pumps, valves, vapor recovery systems, product hoses, emergency shutoff systems, and tank components.
- Perform trailer maintenance and repairs on dry vans, tank trailers, and specialized transportation equipment.
- Execute tire repairs and replacements, wheel-end inspections, and alignment-related repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair lighting, wiring, charging systems, and electronic control systems.
- Utilize computerized diagnostic tools and maintenance software to identify equipment deficiencies.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, preventative maintenance activities, and parts usage.
- Respond to road calls and emergency breakdowns as required.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and environmental regulations during all maintenance activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Assist with inventory management and recommend repair priorities to minimize fleet downtime.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience maintaining Class 5-8 commercial trucks and trailers.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, technical diagrams, and repair procedures.
- Proficiency with diagnostic software and shop equipment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certifications.
- CDL Class A or B.
- Tanker and HazMat endorsements.
- Experience maintaining petroleum or chemical transportation equipment.
- Experience with Cummins, Detroit, Paccar, Volvo, Mack, International, or Freightliner vehicles.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
