Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Activities Assistant to join our team in providing engaging and meaningful activities for residents in an Assisted Living setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in assisted living, nursing home environments, or memory care, and possess strong communication skills. This role is vital in enhancing residents' quality of life through recreational therapy, social engagement, and personalized activity planning tailored to individual needs, including those with Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or disabilities. The Activities Assistant will work closely with residents, staff, and families to foster a supportive and vibrant community.
Duties
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities, including social events, games, arts and crafts, music therapy, and outings.
- Manage activity schedules to ensure a balanced calendar of events that promote socialization and mental stimulation.
- Provide companionship and support during activities to encourage participation among residents with memory issues or disabilities.
- Collaborate with caregiving staff to assess individual resident needs related to aging issues, dementia care, or other health concerns.
- Support residents in maintaining their cognitive functions through specialized activities such as reminiscence therapy or cognitive exercises.
- Maintain accurate records of resident participation and activity outcomes for documentation purposes.
- Assist with counseling residents on aging issues and provide emotional support as part of holistic care.
Requirements
- Prior experience in assisted living, nursing homes, memory care, or long-term care settings preferred.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer's care, dementia care, senior care, and recreational therapy techniques.
- Experience working with people with disabilities or in home & community care environments is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with residents, families, and staff.
- Ability to assist residents with ADLs and manage activity schedules efficiently.
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine interest in enhancing the lives of seniors through social engagement.
- Excellent organizational skills for planning activities and managing multiple schedules simultaneously.
