Collins has an opening for a Construction Inspector/Field Technician in our Virginia Beach, Virginia, office. This role offers the chance to work with industry leaders while using innovative technology. The Construction Inspector/Field Technician is an integral part of the construction management team and will work under the guidance of the Project Leader (Resident Engineer). 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducting inspections, scheduling, and oversight of heavy highway structural projects.
• Solve technical problems and steward solutions through the delivery process.
• Responsible for monitoring contractor conformance to quality, performance, and specifications for assigned construction activities.
• Performs daily field inspections and maintains inspection records.
• Assists in the completion of reports.      
• Keeps resident engineer informed of workload and any daily activities.
• Is active in technical societies.
• Proactively interacts with the contractor to track crew work and equipment on the project.
• Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
• Field work required, which could include nights and weekends.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

• A 2-year technical degree or experience in the trades. General engineering knowledge of staging, structural construction, electrical construction, utility construction, roadway construction, and bridge construction.
• Extensive use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and construction management databases/tracking software is required for this role.
• Ability to obtain certifications for material sampling/testing for aggregates, concrete, asphalt, grading, etc. (ACI, NICET, or state certifications)
• Ability to obtain certifications for inspection of roadways, bridges, coatings, etc. (NICET or state certifications)
• Valid driver’s license.

Salary : $60,000 - $100,000
