Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is hiring an Instrument Person to join our cutting-edge Survey/Geospatial team in Columbia, MD!

Responsibilities

• Will work primarily in the field to assist and develop under the direction of a responsible crew chief.
• Operate data collection technology and input correct coding to generate line-work and functional daily downloads.
• Read and understands plans and specifications.
• Develop and build on fundamental understanding of property boundary knowledge, survey principles, and techniques.
• Know basic trigonometry, sources of measurement errors, and proper data collection methods.
• Dig ground using a pick, shovel and other hand tools to search for and locate survey monuments.
• Cut and remove brush and undergrowth for line of sight.
• Hold and plum rod in obtaining elevations and distances.
• Drive stakes to set grades on construction projects.
• Provide quality customer service and ability to effectively interact with the public and clients on-site.
• Know, understand and demonstrate safe working/operating methods of assigned tools and equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• 2 years of experience required.
• Electronic Transmission/Distribution experience is a plus.
• Must be physically able to work long hours and carry heavy loads ( 50 lbs).
• Possess good interpersonal skills, and effective written and oral communication skills.
• Attendance, punctuality and reliability are essential requirements.
• Enrollment in survey related coursework preferred.
• Must be able to work in inclement weather.
• A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
• Travel and out-of-town stay required at times.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
  
  

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.

Compensation: $24.00-$29.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
